Great Sound, Bermuda – There will be racing on Monday as Oracle Team USA and Emirates Team New Zealand split the Saturday matches. Emirates Team New Zealand capitalized on two penalties by Oracle Team USA in the first match, including going over the start line prematurely, and increased their lead to 4-0 over the defending champion Oracle Team USA. The first race of the day highlighted aggressive maneuvering by Oracle as they searched for their first victory.
Oracle Team USA would find their first victory during the second race that featured a magnificent display of sailing in 10 knot winds in Bermuda. Jimmy Spithill and Tom Slingsby managed their vessel extremely well eliminating penalties that have plagued them in these matches. Their boat does look faster and the hope is that it will still make for an interesting match race series. They crossed the finish line just ten seconds ahead of Emirates Team New Zealand.
There will be two more matches on Sunday and at least one on Monday as the 35th America’s Cup sails along to see who can get seven victories first. Goslings is the official Rum and Ginger Beer of the America’s Cup.
