Newport to Ensenada 2016

Newport to Ensenada is ready for another exiting racing weekend.

The 69th annual Newport to Ensenada Race is setting up to have some classical showdowns.  There is already over 160 entries with a final number of 225 entries expected making it one of the largest N2E Races in years.

H.L. Enloe’s Mighty Merloe returns as the fastest boat entered.  The 60 ft. trimaran will attempt to chase the course record.  Other ORCA’s will be breathing down her neck including the new Schonning 1400 “Wahoo”.  Roy Disney’s “Pyewacket” and  2015 Transpac winner Ed McDowell’s “Grand Illusion” will lead the Maxi class.   The Fast 50’s and the J120’s will each have six boats in their OD classes for tight racing all night long.  Both PHRF and Cruising classes are forming very strong fleets including a large cruising group of Beneteau’s going after the Beneteau Trophy.

There are three course options including a longer 150-mile race around San Clemente Island as well as the shorter 70-mile San Diego start.  Last year the top 5 yachts all finished within 3 minutes of each other for one of the closest first to finish mono hull wins.

This year will also mark the first year of sponsorship by Gosling’s Rum of Bermuda.  This iconic global rum brand is now in its’ 8th generation.  Created in 1806 in Hamilton, Bermuda, Gosling’s Rums have become a sailor’s favorite especially with their trademarked drink, The Dark and Stormy.  Gosling’s is also launching their new rum, Gosling’s Gold.
