Fukuoka, Japan –
2016 exhibited some incredible racing by Land Rover BAR skippered by Olympic legend Ben Ainslie at the helm. This fantastic racing culminated in Land Rover BAR sealing the deal in Japan and winning the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup World Series with a first place finish.
With the win in Fukuoka Land Rover BAR earns two bonus points to carry forward into next year’s Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Qualifiers in Bermuda.
ORACLE TEAM USA pushed hard, finishing ahead of BAR in the first race of the day, but Ainslie sealed it and sailed to a 4, 2, 3 score line, and into the overall series win besting Oracle Team USA by 19 points.
Fukuoka saw some of the most intense sailing of the series between Land Rover BAR and Oracle Team USA which could be a preview of the America’s Cup races in 2017 in Bermuda.
It came down to a tie-break with Land Rover BAR edging out Artemis Racing in the final race and taking the regatta by way of a better result in the last race.
Oracle Team USA edged out Emirates Team New Zealand for second, thus capturing one point for themselves in the overall and denying the Kiwis of that coveted point.
For the best sailors on the fastest boats in the work it was all about the points as attention now shifts to Bermuda and the America’s Cup racing next year!
