America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs Update

It was a Dark N’ Stormy kind of Sunday in Bermuda with an ominous forecast of rain showers and thunderstorms across the Great Sound. Winds peaked near 15 knots and dropped to as low 8 knots.

Emirates Team New Zealand started the day with a 2-1 lead over Artemis Racing. Just when the race appeared to be in hand for the Kiwis the team appeared to have lost control of the boat as it did a slow settled into the water setting up a dramatic sprint to the finish. Burling had the faster angle crossing the line in a photo finish just one-second ahead of the fast charging Swedish boat.

The results of this America’s Cup Challenger Playoffs find Emirates Team New Zealand now in the lead 4-2. With racing scheduled to take place in lighter conditions on Monday Artemis Racing now will have to win all 3 races to take the series.
