The 51st edition of the Goslings Invitational had drama, tournament records and a player shooting an elusive sub 60 round. Danny King on the opening round of the tournament at Belmont Hills GC, fired an incredible 58 to take a four shot lead over playing partner David Wetlauffer. Day Two had Wetlauffer continue his solid play firing a 66. King who the day before had a career round would blow up shooting a 78. That wasn’t the worst of it, he realized he signed an incorrect score card and withdraw from the tournament. A wild 24 hours to say the least.
MILTON, Ga., May 21, 2016 – Laura Wearn (Charlotte, N.C.) made eagle on hole nine, birdie on hole ten and then nailed a 40-foot birdie putt on 11 and closed with a birdie on 18 to win the Gosling’s Dark ‘n Stormy® Classic at Atlanta National Golf Club by one shot over Madelene Sagstrom (Enkoping, Sweden), who set the all-time single-season earnings record with her sixth top five finish in seven events. Wearn closed at 6-under, 210 after an even-par final day. Kristy McPherson (Conway,S.C.) and Prima Thammaraks (Bangkok, Thailand) finished in a tie for third at 3-under, 213.
U.S. Mid-Amateur Champion and Georgia PGA Championship winner receive exemptions
MILTON, Ga., April 27, 2016 – The Symetra Tour, Road to the LPGA, announced at a press conference on Wednesday at Atlanta National Golf Club that locals Margaret Shirley and Karen Paolozzi have received sponsor exemptions to compete in the inaugural Gosling’s Dark ‘n Stormy® Classic.
The Dark ‘n Stormy Bear trap is one of the toughest three holes on the PGA Tour. Thankfully all you have to do is watch the world’s best play it while you sip on the spirit of Bermuda, Goslings Rum. This year’s field includes Ricky Fowler, Phil Mickelson and defending champion Padraig Harrington.
